Become an Emergency Medical Technician

Are you interested in a career in emergency medical services but not sure how to get started? Do you want to become an EMT but money is a little tight right now? Do you want to work for the largest provider of ambulance services in the Region? Well, we have great news for you!

Mohawk Ambulance Service is looking for dynamic, out-going people with a strong desire to help others to join our team of life-saving professionals.  And, if you successfully complete the screening process, your Emergency Medical Technician training* will be provided for you, free of charge. WAIT, WHAT?! That’s right, free tuition and books for successful candidates. And, if you obtain your EMT certification, a potential employment opportunity as well!

The first step on your path to an EMS career is to fill out an application. So, go to the Employment section of the website and under “Position Applying For” select “EMT student”. You will be contacted shortly thereafter with information regarding the screening process which will include an Interview, Physical Ability Test and a CPR class.

Classroom sessions will be held on Fridays from 8 am – 5 pm at our Training Center located at 570 Central Ave, Albany starting September 7, 2018 through February 14, 2019. You will also be required to ride one shift per week as well.

*Please note – Successful completion of EMT training is required for a candidate to be eligible to take the New York State Emergency Medical Technician certifying examination. Completion of the course does not guarantee certification. The EMT class is a scheduled, 2 day a week commitment which includes classroom lectures, skills labs and clinical ride time in the ambulance which combine to create a fun and varied learning experience. Studying and homework assignments will be required as well, in addition to the scheduled time. Students must be 18 years of age by January 18, 2018. High School Diploma or GED required.

Mohawk Ambulance Service offers a wide array of training programs including CPR and other American Heart Association courses, NAEMT courses including AMLS, PHTLS and EPC and New York State Emergency Medical Technician Original and Recertification Training.  We also provide both Basic and Advanced Life Support Continuing Education lectures.

We are also able to provide private training sessions for individual facilities for courses such as PALS and ACLS. Please contact us for more information or to schedule training.

Certified by the American Heart Association as a Community Training Center, we offer courses in:

  • Provider level Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – original and recertification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – original and recertification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – original and recertification
  • First Aid
